One of the most common questions we are asked is about recommended foods to eat while recovering from surgery. Many oral surgery procedures, particularly tooth extraction, require you to be careful about the foods you eat during the healing process. As a general rule, soft or mushy foods are best, as they minimize wear and tear and allow the fastest and most comfortable healing possible. Here is a list of recommended foods that will help keep your recovery process on track and minimize discomfort:
- Cottage Cheese
- Broths
- Mushy or pureed Soups
- Bananas
- Dips and soft breads (remove hard crusts)
- Eggs
- Fish (grilled, not fried)
- Pasta, well-cooked (mac and cheese is a favorite!)
- Meatloaf
- Avocado
- Potatoes (baked or mashed)
- Smoothies and Shakes
- Polenta
- Oatmeal
- Rice (well-cooked, until very soft)
- Risotto
- Noodles (ramen, etc.)
- Vegetables (cooked until very soft)
- Tofu
Make sure you continue to eat balanced meals during the healing process to speed recover and keep you strong and healthy. If you have any questions about recovering from oral surgery or tooth extractions, or are concerned about your healing process, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
