People often talk about the difference a smile can make. For Brian Maixner, a waiter from Wichita, Kansas, the generosity of a stranger completely transformed his life and smile. Brian, who had struggled with dental problems since childhood, was missing several teeth and suffered from extreme tooth decay. Despite these problems, he smiled big and was kind toward his customers and fellow employees.
While being served by Brian, Fred Boettcher, a customer, left an incredible tip: he offered to pay for Brian’s dental care, a gift of thousands of dollars. “I took one look at this young man and knew he was something special,” said Boettcher. “He carried himself with such kindness and confidence with a mouth that looked painful. I was struck by that.”
“This man doesn’t know me and this is something I could never afford to do for myself. It touched me so much that he cared,” said Maixner.
When headline news is often full of horror and terror, it’s important to remember that there are still people out there that care and are trying to make the world a better place, one act of generosity and kindness at a time.
