Sinus Lifts
Often our maxillary sinuses (a large air filled space in our cheeks) get bigger as we age. They may often be found just around the roots of the maxillary molars. Sometimes there is inadequate bone for implant placement after the removal of the maxillary posterior teeth. In order to obtain a solid foundation for a healthy implant we have to add bone to the area.
A sinus lift is a procedure where a small window into the sinus is made and the sinus membrane is gently lifted superiorly. Bone graft material is then placed underneath the membrane. This provides for significant additional bone height that can allow for implant placement. Sometimes, depending on the residual bone height, implants can be placed on the same visit that the sinus lift is preformed.
